More About El Paso, Texas
MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">El Paso is another of those
Texas and Mexican towns that saw Native American civilization of one type or another for thousands of years. Now, the town lies just outside
Fort
Bliss and the
White
Sands
Missile
Range. To balance that presence, El Paso is nearly bisected by the
Franklin
Mountains. So, nature reigns. For the most part, American settlers came in numbers after the Mexican-American War. Then,
El Paso supported the Confederacy. After the Civil War, the town started to grow. Apparently the margarita was invented here at Tommy’s Place Bar by Pancho Morales. Even without a major-league franchise in sports, the city has an active sports profile with baseball, football, soccer, and hockey.
El Paso’s Borderland Derby is a prep race for the Kentucky Derby. A lot of movies were filmed in
El Paso, including
Traffic.
